Hence, these are good materials for places like building lobbies, kitchens, bathrooms and hospitals.

Procedures followed by people who do tiling jobs

Before people in tiling jobs set tiles into position, they first measure the area and the level. This ensures that the tiles are set consistently. Since the tiles used by people in tiling jobs vary in design and size, these are usually set down first on the dry surface to ensure that they follow design. Since the tiles used have sizes that range from one to twenty-four inches, people in tiling jobs may need to cut tile to fit the required space. Cutting tiles is really part of the usual tasks performed by people in tiling jobs. They usually need to do this to cover uneven areas, like those around tubs, piping and wash basins. People in tiling jobs use a special cutting tool or a machine saw for this.

For tiling surfaces like concrete walls, wood, plaster and dry wall - which are flat and solid - people in tiling jobs first spread cement adhesive or mastic thinly on the surface. They then tap the tiles with their trowels to fit them into position.

For tiling surfaces that aren't solid, people in tiling jobs set a tile backer board or a metal mesh first. They then apply a scratch coat of cement mortar to the mesh or board. Once the scratch coat dries, people in tiling jobs will then apply brown mortar. This mortar coat wills server as surface of the tiles. When the cement dries, people in tiling jobs will then apply grout, which is a fine cement for this type of tiling surfaces.

The procedures followed by people in tiling jobs are the same when using marble. With marble slabs though, they use a powerful wet saw or even hand tools sometimes to cut through the marble.

Required training of people in tiling jobs

While there really is no formal education one can take to be someone with tiling jobs, there are formal apprenticeship programs that one can join. Usually, these programs last for three years. This allows a person to be more prepared for the requirements of the job.
